About Beinn Talaidh

Rising as a near-perfect cone at the heart of Mull, this prominent peak offers a classic mountain profile. Once classified as a Corbett, it now holds the title of Scotland’s highest Graham. The ascent via Glen Forsa provides a steady climb to a summit with commanding views across the Sound of Mull and towards Ben More.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Beinn Tàlaidh', which translates to the 'Mountain of Lulling' or 'Mountain of the Lullaby'. This is thought to refer to its remarkably symmetrical, gentle shape when viewed from the northern approaches of Glen Forsa.
  • For many years the hill was classified as a Corbett, but a 2001 GPS resurvey found it reached only 761.6 metres—just four inches short of the 2,500ft requirement. While it was demoted to Graham status, it remains the highest peak in that classification.
  • The southern slopes are home to the wreckage of an RAF Dakota that crashed in 1945. Large sections of the aircraft, including the engines and parts of the wings, remain visible on the hillside near the head of Glen More.
  • The summit offers an exceptional perspective of the nearby Munro, Ben More, which dominates the skyline to the southwest, while the view north follows the length of Glen Forsa toward the coastal strip of Salen.
  • Having missed out on Corbett status by a mere four inches, the mountain remains exactly the same height as it was before the 2001 survey, yet is now regarded as significantly less of an achievement by those who only carry certain lists.
