Maol a' Ghearraidh

Rising to 522 metres on the west coast mainland, this grassy hill overlooks the Sound of Arisaig and the Inner Hebrides. The summit offers earned views across to Rum, Eigg, and the Small Isles, with the Morar peninsula spreading below. A modest climb that rewards with island panoramas and a sense of remoteness.

• •The name Maol a' Ghearraidh derives from Scottish Gaelic, meaning 'bare hill of the sheepfold' or 'rounded hill of the enclosure', describing both its smooth profile and the old grazing practices that shaped this coastal landscape.
• •The hill's position on the Morar peninsula places it between two of Scotland's deepest bodies of water: Loch Morar to the north, which plunges to 310 metres, and the Sound of Sleat to the south.
