Beinn Bheag

A modest Dodd rising to 537 metres on the western shore of Loch Shiel in Lochaber. The lower slopes are characteristically boggy with few established paths, making for rough going underfoot. Despite its relatively modest height, the summit commands views across the loch to the higher peaks of Moidart beyond.

• •The name Beinn Bheag comes from Scottish Gaelic, meaning 'small mountain' or 'little mountain', a straightforward descriptive name that distinguishes it from larger neighbouring peaks in the Moidart and Lochaber landscape.
• •The hill overlooks Loch Shiel, one of Scotland's longest freshwater lochs, which stretches for 17 miles from Glenfinnan in the north to Acharacle in the south.
• •Its classification as a Dodd places it among hills between 2,000 and 2,500 feet with a drop of at least 50 feet on all sides, a category defined by hillwalker Rob Woodall.
