Did You Know?

  • The name Leacann nan Gall translates from Gaelic as 'the slope of the strangers' or 'the slope of the Lowlanders', suggesting this was once considered a boundary or marker between Gaelic-speaking Highland communities and outsiders from the south or east.
  • The summit lies within the Cowal peninsula, a landscape shaped by glacial action that carved the deep sea lochs—Loch Fyne, Loch Long, and the Kyles of Bute—into a maze of water and land that remained one of Argyll's most inaccessible corners until modern roads arrived.
  • Despite its modest height, the hill's position near the coast provides views that span saltwater as much as mountain, taking in Holy Loch, the Firth of Clyde, and on clear days the peaks of Arran across the water.
