About Meall Garbh
High above the eastern reaches of Loch Treig, this Munro Top forms the rugged southern shoulder of Chno Dearg. It offers an expansive, wild perspective over the remote Rannoch Moor and the Grey Corries, providing a much quieter, lonelier experience than the popular peaks found further west in Glen Nevis.

Did You Know?
- •In Gaelic, Meall Garbh translates as 'Rough Hill'. The term 'Meall' is commonly used throughout the Highlands to describe a rounded, bulky hill, distinguishing it from the sharper 'Sgùrr' or 'Stob', while 'Garbh' refers to the stony, broken ground found near the summit.
- •Most walkers reach this summit by following the high, wind-swept ridge south from the Munro Chno Dearg. This route avoids the worst of the lower-level bogs and keeps hikers on a high plateau with consistent views of the surrounding wilderness.
- •The summit provides an exceptional view of the southern end of Loch Treig, looking directly into the mouth of the remote Glen Iolairean and towards the isolated peaks of the Corrour Forest.
- •For many, the 'roughness' promised by the name is a welcome relief compared to the miles of energy-sapping, ankle-deep moorland that must be crossed simply to reach the base of the hill.
