Did You Know?
- •The name Beann Dhearg is derived from the Irish 'Binn Dhearg', meaning 'Red Peak', which likely refers to the distinctive hue of the Old Red Sandstone common throughout the Reeks, especially when caught in low light.
- •Positioned at the western fringe of the range, the summit offers a spectacular side-on profile of the Reeks' main ridge, including a clear view toward the distant, jagged silhouette of Carrauntoohil.
- •To the west, the hill overlooks the winding Caragh River as it flows toward the expansive waters of Lough Caragh and the Atlantic beyond.
- •While peak-baggers are busy queuing for a photo on the higher Munros to the east, you can usually enjoy the summit of Beann Dhearg with nothing but the local sheep for company.
