Did You Know?

  • The name derives from the Irish 'Binn Dubh', which translates as ‘Black Peak’. This is a common toponym in the Irish highlands, usually referring to the dark appearance of shadowed escarpments or the presence of deep, dark peat on the upper slopes.
  • From the summit, the view south is dominated by the broad expanse of Dingle Bay, while to the west, you can trace the coastline of the peninsula towards Dingle Harbour and the Atlantic beyond.
  • Though technically an outlier of the more famous Slieve Mish range, its position makes it an excellent vantage point for surveying the fertile valley of Gortbreagoge and the surrounding agricultural heartland of East Dingle.
  • Being classified as a Tump ensures that even on a hill where you might not meet another soul all day, you are still technically participating in the high-stakes world of peak-bagging.
