Did You Know?
- •The hill's name is a translation of the Irish Cnoc an Chaisleáin, likely inspired by the rugged rock outcrops near the summit that resemble ruined fortifications.
- •It forms part of the central spine of the Slieve Mish Mountains, the easternmost upland area of the Dingle Peninsula, and is a key waypoint on the high-level ridge walk between Baurtregaum and Caherconree.
- •On a clear day, the summit offers a spectacular vantage point over Tralee Bay to the north, looking across to the sandy spit of the Magharees and the distant peaks of the Brandon range.
- •The nearby peak of Caherconree is home to Ireland’s highest inland promontory fort, an Iron Age stone structure steeped in the legends of the warrior Cú Chulainn.
- •Despite the name, the only residents you are likely to find defending these battlements are a few wind-scruffed sheep and the occasional raven.
