Did You Know?
- •The name Baurtregaum is an anglicisation of the Irish Barr Trí gCom, meaning 'top of the three hollows', referring to the deep glaciated valleys of Derrymore, Curraheen, and Glenashalat that carve into the mountain's flanks.
- •This top forms the eastern rim of the Derrymore Glen, a classic U-shaped glacial valley containing three small corrie lakes: Lough Naparka, Lough Counter, and Lough Doon.
- •The summit provides an excellent perspective on the 'Screig', the steep, rocky northern face of the Slieve Mish range that drops sharply towards the coastal flats near Tralee.
- •Given the lack of a substantial summit feature and its proximity to the higher main peak, it is the kind of place where a walker might check their map twice just to be sure they have actually arrived.
