About Cnoc an Bhraca
Situated at the eastern edge of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, this rugged Hewitt overlooks the dramatic Gap of Dunloe. While overshadowed by the range's 1,000-metre giants, its sandstone slopes offer a quieter perspective of the Black Valley and the sharp, saw-toothed profiles of Cruach Mhór and The Big Gun to the west.

Did You Know?
- •The name Cnoc an Bhraca is Irish for 'Hill of the Speckled Place', likely a reference to the mottled pattern of grey sandstone rocks scattered amongst the summit heather.
- •It acts as the eastern gateway to the high Reeks; walkers starting from the Gap of Dunloe use it as the first major climb before tackling the narrow arêtes further west.
- •The summit provides an exceptional view of the serpent-like road winding through the Gap of Dunloe, flanked by the steep, red-tinged slopes of Purple Mountain.
- •Standing at 728 metres, it is a significant Hewitt that offers one of the best angles to view the entire 'Coom Callee' corrie and its dark, glaciated loughs.
- •It is an ideal spot for those who enjoy the 'high mountain' atmosphere of the Reeks but prefer to watch the frantic scrambling on the nearby Big Gun from a safe, grassy distance.
