About Moel Eilio
Moel Eilio is the gentle, grassy giant overlooking Llanberis, often ignored by those rushing toward Snowdon. It offers a civilised ridge walk and stunning views, provided you don't mind the biting wind and the sheep watching your every stumble with silent, woolly judgment.

Did You Know?
- •The mountain sits just three miles north-west of Snowdon, making it the perfect alternative when the main peak looks like a busy supermarket queue. Its name effectively means 'Frosty Hill', a title you will fully respect once the Snowdonia wind starts nibbling your ears.
- •Geographically, it forms a classic curved ridge with its siblings Foel Gron and Foel Goch. This horseshoe route provides a much quieter, more contemplative approach to the region than the tourist-clogged paths starting directly from the village.
- •Nestled in a cwm below the summit is Llyn Dwythwch, a small, crystalline lake. It is the perfect spot to stop and reflect on your life choices while the wind tries to relocate your ham sandwiches to the next county.
- •Because of its smooth, grassy profile, the mountain is a notorious snow-catcher in winter. While it looks incredibly picturesque from a distance, those slopes transform into a giant, freezing slip-and-slide for anyone lacking proper crampons and a sense of self-preservation.
- •The ascent from Llanberis features a grassy incline specifically designed by nature to test the structural integrity of human calves. It is the sort of hill where you spend twenty minutes staring at your boots, only to look up and find the summit mocking you from the exact same distance.
