West Kip

Rising to 551 metres in the Pentland Hills south of Edinburgh, this grassy summit forms part of the main ridge walk connecting Scald Law and East Cairn Hill. The rounded top offers extensive views across the Lothians and Borders, with Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth visible northward on clear days. A popular objective for ridge walkers.

• •The name 'Kip' derives from the Scots word meaning a pointed hill or projecting peak, though the summit itself is notably rounded – the name may originally have referred to the profile seen from lower ground rather than the actual summit shape.
• •West Kip sits on the main Pentland ridge walk, a classic high-level traverse that strings together several summits including neighbouring East Kip, and is often combined with Scald Law, the highest point in the range at 579 metres.
• •The hill forms part of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, established in 1986 and covering 90 square kilometres of protected landscape within easy reach of Edinburgh's southern suburbs.
• •From the summit, the distinctive volcanic plug of North Berwick Law is visible to the northeast across the Lothian plain, while the Moorfoot Hills stretch away to the southeast across the valley of the River North Esk.
