Did You Know?
- •The name likely derives from the Old English 'shaw', meaning a small wood or thicket, suggesting the 'brow' of a wooded slope where wagons might have once passed.
- •The hill sits just south of Windgather Rocks, a gritstone edge favoured by climbers, making it a natural extension for those walking the ridge from Pym Chair.
- •From the summit, the view to the west overlooks the Cheshire Plain, where the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank is a prominent landmark against the horizon.
- •Despite its elevation, the summit is so gentle that many hikers traversing the path toward Taxal Edge may find they have bagged the Tump entirely by accident.
