About Charles Head
Tucked above the village of Kettleshulme, this modest Tump marks the quiet northern end of the ridge leading toward Windgather Rocks. Primarily agricultural in character, its grassy slopes offer clear perspectives across the Goyt Valley toward Taxal Edge and the expansive Cheshire Plain stretching out to the west.

Did You Know?
- •The name is shared with the adjacent Charles Head Farm, with 'Head' being a common topographic term in the Pennine fringes for the high point of a valley or a distinctive hill top.
- •It sits on the high ground between the Todd Brook and the River Goyt, providing a vantage point over the ancient packhorse routes that once moved goods between Cheshire and the Derbyshire markets.
- •While less dramatic than the nearby gritstone escarpment of Windgather Rocks, the summit offers an excellent perspective of the Goyt Valley’s reservoirs, particularly Fernilee, tucked into the crease of the hills to the east.
- •In a region famous for grand 'Tors' and 'Edges,' Charles Head opts for a more understated, gentlemanly nomenclature, though the local sheep remain entirely unimpressed by its status.
