About Sgurr Dubh South Top
Positioned in the wild Coulin Forest, this rocky peak serves as a magnificent balcony for viewing the Torridon range. The terrain is characterized by rugged Lewisian gneiss and quartzite blocks, requiring a steady foot. From the summit, the shattered grey ridges of Liathach and Beinn Eighe dominate the northern horizon.

Did You Know?
- •The name is Scottish Gaelic, translating simply as 'Black Peak', a common descriptive title used to denote hills that appear darker or more shadowed than their quartzite-capped, white-scree neighbours.
- •The most common approach begins from the road at Luib in Glen Carron, following the track toward the Lairig Mhor before striking up steep, pathless slopes to reach the ridge.
- •The summit provides a direct, clear perspective of the spectacular southern ramparts of Beinn Eighe and the deep-cut corries of the Coulin Forest that are hidden from the main roads.
- •It is frequently climbed in tandem with the neighbouring Sgurr nan Lochan, a pairing that offers one of the finest high-level walks in the North West Highlands outside of the main Munro circuits.
- •Despite its relatively modest height, its position makes it a prime spot for spotting golden eagles, which are known to hunt over the remote moorland between here and Loch Damh.
