Beinn Liath Bheag

This rocky, heather-clad summit in the North West Highlands sits in the shadow of the higher Fannich Munros. True to its name, which means 'small grey hill', it offers a rugged, quieter ascent with exceptional views across the glen to the soaring eastern precipices of Sgùrr nan Clach Geala.

• •The name is Scottish Gaelic, with Beinn Liath Bheag translating as the 'small grey hill'. It is named in relation to its higher neighbour to the south-east, Beinn Liath Mhòr Fannaich, which reaches 954 metres.
• •The hill overlooks the remote waters of Loch a' Bhraoin to the west, a classic glacial ribbon lake that sits at the base of the surrounding high plateaus.
• •While often overlooked by those focused on the Munros, the summit provides one of the best vantage points for viewing the complex, jagged silhouette of the An Teallach massif across the Dundonnell wilderness.
• •Despite being the 'little' one of the local pair, the 737-metre height and characteristically rough, pathless terrain mean it requires more than a 'little' effort to reach the top.
