About Mullach Tarsuinn

Deep in the wild Letterewe Forest, this remote peak stands between the long reach of Lochan Fada and the mountains of Fisherfield. Far from any road, its pathless slopes offer a genuine sense of isolation and a unique perspective on the massive, craggy eastern face of Slioch.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Mullach Tarsuinn, which translates as 'transverse summit' or 'cross-top'. In the context of the Highlands, this typically describes a hill or ridge that lies across a main pass or sits at an angle to the primary grain of the surrounding mountain ranges.
  • Situated in one of the most remote parts of the North West Highlands, the hill is most commonly approached via a long trek from Incheril near Kinlochewe, passing through the dramatic, glaciated scenery of the Letterewe estate.
  • From the summit, walkers gain an impressive and uncommonly seen view of the hidden eastern corries of Slioch and the full, dark length of Lochan Fada stretching away towards the north-west.
  • To the north, the peak looks directly into the heart of the Fisherfield Forest, providing a clear vantage point of the 'Great Wilderness' giants, A' Mhaighdean and Ruadh Stac Mòr, rising sharply above the surrounding moorland.
  • Given its proximity to some of Scotland’s most famous 3,000-foot peaks, visiting this summit is a sure sign that you have either finished the Munros or are intentionally avoiding the crowds.
