About Moruisg East Top

Situated on the broad, grassy eastern shoulder of its parent Munro, this high Tump offers a gentler perspective than the steep northern crags of Mòruisg. It marks a significant point on the high-level ridge heading toward Sgùrr nan Ceannaichean, overlooking the deep glacial trough of Glencarron and the A890.

Did You Know?

  • The name derives from the Gaelic Mòr-uisge, meaning 'big water.' This likely refers to the numerous burns draining its steep slopes into the River Carron, or perhaps the notoriously boggy ground found on the lower approaches.
  • Though overshadowed by its higher neighbour to the west, this top is a vital waypoint for those traversing the high ground towards the Corbett Sgùrr nan Ceannaichean, providing a clearer view down the length of Gleann Gniomhaidh than the main summit.
  • From this vantage point, the sprawling, remote plateau of Maoile Lunndaidh is prominent to the southeast, while the sharp Torridon giants, including Liathach and Beinn Eighe, appear as jagged silhouettes on the northern horizon.
  • Hillwalkers often encounter this top while descending the 'big water' of Mòruisg, usually discovering that the mountain’s name is a very literal warning about the state of one’s boots by the end of the day.
