Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Gaelic 'Meall nam Maigheach', which translates as the 'Hill of the Hares'. This is a reference to the mountain hares that frequent these slopes, often seen darting across the heather or turning white during the winter months.
- •The hill sits immediately north of the high pass road between Killin and Glen Lyon, making it one of the more accessible high-altitude starting points in the Grampians despite its relatively modest stature.
- •Looking north from the summit, the view is dominated by the long, deep trench of Glen Lyon and the sprawling, remote peaks of the Lyon-Lochay forest.
- •It serves as an excellent vantage point for watching crowds of walkers struggle up the steep ascent of the Tarmachan Ridge across the glen while you enjoy a significantly flatter stroll.
