About Meall Garbh
Sitting centrally in the Càrn Mairg group north of Glen Lyon, this Munro is defined by its rounded, stony character. A distinctive dry-stone dyke leads almost directly to the summit cairn, providing a reliable navigational aid across the windswept plateau. From the top, views stretch across the glen to the massive Ben Lawers range.

Did You Know?
- •The name is Gaelic for 'Rough Round Hill.' While common across the Highlands, this summit earns the description via the fields of shattered quartzite boulders that clutter its higher elevations.
- •A prominent dry-stone wall, or dyke, runs along the ridge toward the summit. It provides an unmistakable handrail for navigation in poor visibility, though its original purpose was to mark historical land boundaries.
- •The hill is part of the 'Glen Lyon Four,' a popular high-level circuit often started from Invervar. It is rarely climbed in isolation due to the ease of connecting it with Càrn Gorm and Càrn Mairg.
- •The summit provides a direct line of sight across Glen Lyon to its namesake Munro, Meall Garbh, which forms part of the Ben Lawers range to the south.
- •The cairn-topped summit is notably more 'rubbly' than its neighbours, making the final approach a test of ankles rather than lungs.
