Little Hills West

Overlooking the West Highland Way’s notoriously craggy section near Inversnaid, this 808m peak is the rugged western nub of the Beinn a' Choin ridge. It offers glorious solitude and Arrochar views for those who prefer their ankles challenged and their summits devoid of selfie-stick-wielding tourists.

• •This fell sits directly above the most technical section of the West Highland Way, where the path dissolves into a scramble of tree roots. While hikers below are questioning their life choices, you'll be enjoying pristine silence.
• •Geologically, the area is defined by Dalradian schists, creating the jagged, 'knobbly' terrain that gives the Little Hills their name. Despite the modest title, 808 meters represents a significant vertical pull from the lochside.
• •The slopes near Inversnaid were famously the territory of Rob Roy MacGregor. His legendary cave is hidden at the foot of these hills, once providing a damp but effective refuge from pursuing authorities.
• •It serves as the western subsidiary top to Beinn a' Choin, and many hill-baggers argue it provides the superior vantage point for admiring the northern, fjord-like reaches of Loch Lomond.
