About Leum Uilleim South Top

Situated in the remote Corrour estate, this high shoulder offers a desolate yet atmospheric vantage point. Usually reached via a trackless, often boggy ascent from the isolated Corrour station, the summit provides an uncrowded perspective over the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor and its parent Corbett, Leum Uilleim.

Did You Know?

  • Leum Uilleim translates from Gaelic as ‘William’s Leap’, purportedly named after a local hunter or a MacGregor escaping pursuit, though the exact identity of William is lost to time.
  • The hill is most easily accessed from Corrour station, the highest and most remote railway station in the UK, making it a classic ‘train-in, train-out’ walk.
  • Looking south-east from the summit, the vast, peat-stained plateau of Rannoch Moor stretches towards the horizon, punctuated by the distant, lonely spike of Schiehallion.
  • Given the notoriously saturated ground on the approach, the ‘leap’ in the hill’s name is frequently practiced by walkers trying to avoid a boot-full of Rannoch peat.
