About Creag a' Bhragit

Often overshadowed by its neighbor Beinn a' Chroin, Creag a' Bhragit is the rocky eastern shoulder that keeps map-readers on their toes. It’s a 923-meter lump of Crianlarich schist that spent years arguing with surveyors over which bump was actually the highest point in the neighborhood.

Did You Know?

  • The name translates from Gaelic as the 'Crag of the Neck', referring to its position on the high, connecting ridge of the Beinn a' Chroin massif.
  • In the original 1891 Munro's Tables, there was significant confusion regarding the true summit of this range, with this peak frequently being mistaken for the main Munro summit.
  • The surrounding terrain is a chaotic mix of steep crags and hidden lochans, typical of the rugged geology found near the head of Glen Falloch and the Crianlarich hills.
  • It serves as a vital waypoint on the popular ridge walks in the area, offering some of the most dramatic, plunging views toward the nearby pyramid of An Caisteal.
  • Navigating this ridge in the mist is essentially an exercise in blind optimism; you will likely celebrate reaching the summit at least three times before the actual cairn finally appears.
