About Black Craig
Rising steeply above the northern shores of Loch Earn, this rugged Tump offers a quieter alternative to the busier Munros nearby. Its southern flanks are defined by dark, craggy outcrops, while the summit provides an exceptional perspective down the length of the loch toward the peaks of Ben Vorlich and Stùc a' Chroin.

Did You Know?
- •The name is a literal translation of the Scottish Gaelic Creag Dhubh, describing the dark, fractured rock faces that define its southern slopes above Loch Earn.
- •It is frequently climbed as part of a circuit from St Fillans, often paired with its neighbour Creag Each to create a substantial day on the undulating moorland between Loch Earn and Glen Lednock.
- •The summit offers a commanding vantage point to view the contrast of the Highland Boundary Fault; to the north lie the rugged Breadalbane peaks, while the gentler Strathearn valley opens up to the south-east.
- •While listed as a Tump, its position makes it feel significantly more substantial than the classification suggests, especially during the steep initial pull from the village of St Fillans.
