About Meall Reamhar

Rising above the south-eastern shores of Loch Earn, this rounded hill offers a quieter alternative to the busy nearby Munros. The terrain is a mix of thick heather and peat, typical of the southern Highlands. It provides an excellent vantage point for the rugged north faces of Ben Vorlich and Stùc a’ Chroin.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Meall Reamhar, which translates as 'fat' or 'thick hill', describing its bulky, rounded profile when viewed from the west.
  • It is often climbed in a circular loop starting from St Fillans, frequently paired with its higher southern neighbour, Meall na Fearna.
  • The summit offers a clear, elevated perspective of the Tarmachan Ridge and the Ben Lawers range, situated directly across the waters of Loch Earn to the north.
  • Despite being named the 'fat hill', the long, steady pull through pathless heather from the Glen Ample track is an effective way to feel somewhat thinner by the time you reach the summit.
