Beinn Molurgainn

Rising above the remote western head of Glen Lyon, this bulky Graham offers a quiet, pathless alternative to the neighbouring Munros. Its broad, heathery slopes lead to a spacious summit, where the reward is a staggering, uncrowded perspective over Loch Lyon towards the iconic cones of Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dothaidh.

• •The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Beinn Molurgainn', which translates as 'the hill of the little shin' or 'long ridge', likely referring to the distinctive, leg-like spur that extends south-east from the summit massif.
• •Most walkers approach the hill from the head of Loch Lyon via the private road at Pubil, making use of the land rover tracks in Gleann Meran before strike out onto the open, pathless hillside.
• •The summit offers a unique profile view of the massive corries of the Bridge of Orchy hills, particularly the deep, shadowing cleft of Coire an Dothaidh which is often hidden from more popular approach routes.
• •Despite its proximity to the West Highland Way, the hill remains one of the more secluded Grahams in the southern Grampians, largely due to its position deep within the North Lyon estate.
• •The hill provides an excellent opportunity to test the waterproof integrity of your boots; the local peat hags are famously unforgiving to those who misjudge their stride.
