About Beinn Mhic Cedidh

Rising steeply above the head of Loch na Keal, this rugged Corbett offers a quieter alternative to its more famous neighbour, Ben More. Its rocky, grassy slopes lead to a sprawling summit plateau with commanding views across the Sound of Mull towards the Treshnish Isles and the jagged skyline of the Cuillin on Skye.

Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic for 'Hill of the Son of Keddy,' likely referring to a local figure or a forgotten clan connection common in the Inner Hebrides, where landscape features often bear the patronymics of those who once grazed livestock on the high slopes.
  • While often overshadowed by Ben More, the ascent from the head of Loch na Keal provides a more secluded experience, traversing the high, grassy ridges of the Ardmeanach peninsula.
  • The summit offers one of the best perspectives of Ben More’s dramatic western face and the sweeping coastline of Loch Tuath, with the distinctive flat-topped silhouettes of the Treshnish Isles visible on clear days.
  • Standing at 783 metres, it is one of only two Corbetts on the Isle of Mull, making it an essential target for hillwalkers visiting the island who have already ticked off the Munro.
  • The terrain is a classic Mull mixture of steep grass and hidden bog; if you find a patch of ground that doesn't squelch under your boot, you have likely strayed onto a rock by mistake.
