About An Riabhachan
Tucked away in the wild hinterland between Glen Strathfarrar and Loch Mullardoch, this high, sprawling Munro forms part of a remote four-peak ridge. Its long, undulating summit crest offers an immense sense of isolation, requiring a long approach by boat or a serious trek through some of the Highlands' most rugged terrain.

Did You Know?
- •The name is Gaelic for 'The Brindled One' (or 'The Streaked One'), a reference to the speckled appearance of the mountain's rocky, heather-clad slopes when viewed from a distance.
- •It forms the central section of the high ridge on the north side of Loch Mullardoch, situated between its higher neighbour Sgùrr na Lapaich to the east and Sgùrr Sòdair to the west.
- •Reaching the base of the mountain is a challenge in itself; many walkers opt for a boat charter across Loch Mullardoch to avoid the notoriously boggy and exhausting ten-kilometre shoreline path from the dam.
- •The summit provides an exceptional vantage point for surveying the remote Monar Forest to the north and the jagged silhouette of the Cuillin on Skye far to the west on clear days.
- •Its sprawling nature means it boasts several tops that can be frustratingly difficult to distinguish in the mist, leading many a navigator to celebrate a summit that is actually a subsidiary bump.
