About Meall na Doire na Saobhaidhe

Rising to 566 metres in the Northwest Highlands, this remotely positioned Dodd occupies rough terrain north of Loch Monar. The Gaelic name references a sloping copse or small wood, though the summit landscape today is characteristically bare and exposed. Approached most readily from Glen Strathfarrar, though access requires negotiating estate restrictions.

Did You Know?

  • The name translates from Scottish Gaelic as 'hill of the wood of the sloping place' or 'crooked wood', likely referencing vegetation patterns that were more prominent before centuries of grazing and climate change stripped much of the Highland landscape bare.
  • The summit lies within one of Scotland's most inaccessible glens, with Glen Strathfarrar's gated private road requiring advance permission from the estate and limited to a set number of vehicles per day.
  • Though modest in height, this hill occupies exceptionally wild country north of Loch Monar, surrounded by a scatter of similar-height Munros and Corbetts that form one of the least-visited pockets of the Northwest Highlands.
