About Rainsborrow Crag
Tucked beneath the main ridge of Yoke, this rugged Synge summit offers a more intimate experience than its higher neighbours. Characterised by steep, craggy western faces dropping into the upper Kentmere valley, it provides a dramatic vantage point overlooking the reservoir and the soaring, scree-covered slopes of Ill Bell.

Did You Know?
- •The name is likely derived from the Old Norse 'hrafn' (raven) and 'berg' (hill), indicating that these steep western cliffs have been a traditional nesting site for ravens for centuries.
- •Although often considered a mere shoulder of Yoke, it is listed as a separate summit in the Synge classification, which identifies Lakeland tops based on a specific 15-metre prominence.
- •The crag provides a spectacular profile view of the neighbouring Ill Bell, clearly showing the steep, tiered scree runs that make that fell one of the most distinctive shapes in the Far Eastern Fells.
- •It is the ideal spot to watch the crowds on the Kentmere Horseshoe from a distance; most walkers stay on the broad ridge path above, leaving this rocky outcrop in relative peace.
