Did You Know?

  • The name derives from Gaelic 'creachan' meaning 'little rocky place' or 'little cliff', with 'beag' meaning 'small' – a straightforward description of the hill's modest, broken terrain.
  • The hill sits on the lower flanks of Beinn Mhòr, whose slopes to the east are occupied by Benmore Botanic Garden, famed for its collection of rhododendrons and avenue of giant redwoods planted in 1863.
  • Despite its modest height, Creachan Beag qualifies as a Tump – a hill with at least 30 metres of topographic prominence – indicating it rises distinctly enough from surrounding terrain to offer its own character.
