Carn na Sguabaich

Rising to 576 metres in the Monadhliath Mountains west of the Cairngorms, this heather-clad summit overlooks the upper reaches of Strathdearn. The rounded, peaty terrain is typical of this quiet range, offering solitude far removed from the busy Munros to the east. A Dodd and Tump, it rewards the effort with wide horizons.

• •The name derives from Scottish Gaelic, with 'carn' meaning cairn or rocky hill and 'sguabaich' relating to sweeping or brushing, possibly describing the hill's windswept summit or the action of clouds across its broad dome.
• •The hill sits within the Monadhliath range, a name meaning 'grey hills' in Gaelic, referring to the extensive grassy and heathery plateaux that characterise this often-overlooked upland area between Strathspey and the Great Glen.
• •As a Dodd, the hill meets the criterion of being between 500 and 599 metres with at least 30 metres of prominence, a classification created by Clem Clements and now maintained by the Database of British and Irish Hills.
