Carn na Lair

Rising to 598 metres above the Cairngorms foothills, this Dodd offers an undemanding ascent with worthwhile views across the Spey valley. The terrain is typical heather moorland, with the summit cairn providing a modest vantage point over the surrounding forests and more distant Munros to the south and west.

• •The name derives from Scottish Gaelic 'Càrn na Làir', meaning 'cairn of the mare', likely referring to the hill's rounded profile resembling a horse's back or perhaps marking historic grazing grounds for horses.
• •At just under 600 metres, this hill sits comfortably within the Dodd classification, which covers Scottish hills between 2000 and 2999 feet that don't meet the stricter prominence requirements of higher lists.
