An Cabar West Top

A western outlier of the Ben Wyvis massif in Easter Ross, this modest Dodd sits above the farmland northwest of Dingwall. The summit lies roughly 500 metres lower and several kilometres west of the main plateau at Glas Leathad Mòr, offering an altogether quieter prospect than its famous neighbour.

• •The name 'An Cabar' derives from Scottish Gaelic meaning 'the antler' or 'the rafter', likely describing a projecting ridge or spur extending from the main Ben Wyvis massif.
• •This western top sits well beyond the National Nature Reserve boundary that protects the ecologically important summit plateau of Ben Wyvis itself, where woolly hair-moss provides nesting habitat for breeding dotterel.
• •At 547 metres, the summit stands barely half the height of neighbouring Glas Leathad Mòr, the 1,046-metre high point of Ben Wyvis visible to the east.
• •The hill's position on the western flank of the massif offers views across Strathconon and the lower farmlands of Easter Ross, far removed from the high plateau conditions found on the main ridge.
