About Sgurr Mor
Standing as the high point of the expansive Fannichs, this massive Munro commands the skyline between Loch Fannich and the Ullapool road. While its southern slopes are relatively uniform, the hill's true character is found in its dramatic northern cliffs and the sharp, airy ridge connecting it to neighbouring Sgùrr nan Clach Geala.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Sgùrr Mòr, meaning 'Big Peak'. In the Fannichs, where many of the surrounding summits are lower or more rounded, this mountain’s scale and central position make the literal name an accurate description of its dominance over the range.
- •From the summit, the view north-west is particularly spectacular, offering a clear perspective across the 'Great Wilderness' toward the jagged skyline of An Teallach and the remote peaks of the Fisherfield Forest.
- •The mountain's most impressive feature is its northern face, where the ground drops away into the vast, dark amphitheatre of Coire Mòr, a stark contrast to the rounded grassy slopes found on its southern side.
- •It is frequently climbed as part of a long circular route from the A835, typically paired with its neighbours Meall a' Chrasgaidh and Sgùrr nan Clach Geala to avoid the even longer approach from the shores of Loch Fannich.
- •The walk-in from the north involves crossing a stretch of ground known as the 'Great Moss', an area that remains impressively committed to its role as a sponge regardless of how long it has been since the last rainfall.
