About Meall Buidhe
Rising as a broad, high-altitude shoulder on the western edge of the Cairngorm plateau, this Munro Top offers a grandstand view across the desolate Moine Mhòr. Accessible from Glen Feshie, its gentle slopes belie the dramatic drop-offs of nearby Sgòr Gaoith and the massive, craggy bulk of Braeriach to the east.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic 'Meall Buidhe', meaning 'Yellow Hill'. This likely refers to the distinctive pale hue of the dead grasses and sedges that carpet its rounded slopes during the winter and early spring months.
- •The summit sits on the western fringe of the Moine Mhòr, or 'Great Moss'. This is an expansive, sub-arctic peat bog plateau that remains one of the most remote and disorientating landscapes in the Cairngorms National Park during poor visibility.
- •From the summit cairn, walkers earn a clear perspective across the plateau toward the massive western flanks of Braeriach and Sgòr an Lochain Uaine, the third and fifth highest peaks in the UK respectively.
- •While many walkers bypass this Top on their way to the more famous Sgòr Gaoith, Meall Buidhe provides a superior vantage point for looking directly down the long, glacial trench of Glen Feshie to the south.
- •Given that there are two separate Munros and several other hills in Scotland sharing the exact same name, it is a top that requires a quick double-check of the map to ensure you haven't arrived in Glen Lyon or Knoydart by mistake.
