About Meall Gorm

Overlooking the quiet waters of Loch Kishorn near Ardarroch, this 710m summit offers a characteristically rugged Wester Ross experience. While often bypassed for the higher Applecross peaks, it serves as a fine vantage point for surveying the Cuillin on Skye and the complex coastline of the Lochalsh peninsula.

Did You Know?

  • The name Meall Gorm translates from Scottish Gaelic as 'Blue Hill' or 'Green Hill'. In the Highlands, 'Gorm' is frequently used to describe a hill with a verdant, grassy covering, or one that takes on a distinctive blue hue when viewed from a distance.
  • Its position on the edge of the Applecross peninsula makes it an excellent grandstand for watching the weather roll in across Loch Carron. From the summit, the view south-east looks directly over the village of Kishorn towards the dramatic profile of Sgùrr na Lapaich.
  • The hill is often climbed in conjunction with its southern neighbour, An Sgùrr, to create a circular route above the Ardarroch forest, avoiding the more congested tourist traffic heading for the nearby Bealach na Bà.
  • Despite being classified as a Hump, the steep, pathless lower slopes will quickly convince your calves that the name refers to the effort required rather than just its prominence.
