About Tievereivagh [Derreen] [Taobh Riabhach]
Situated on the eastern edge of Achill Island overlooking the narrow waters of Achill Sound, this modest but prominent Marilyn offers a rugged, heathery ascent. Despite its low elevation, the summit provides a superb vantage point for surveying the transition from the Mayo mainland to Achill’s high western peaks of Slievemore and Croaghaun.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Irish Taobh Riabhach, meaning 'brindled hillside,' which likely describes the mottled, streaked appearance of the rock and heather covering its slopes.
- •From the summit, walkers gain a clear perspective of the bridge at Achill Sound and the shifting sands of the Bullsmouth, with the Nephin Beg range visible across the water to the east.
- •Though standing at less than 300 metres, its status as a Marilyn confirms its relative isolation; it is the highest point for several kilometres, separated from the interior mountains by low-lying peat bog.
- •While Achill is famous for its record-breaking sea cliffs, this hill offers a rare opportunity to survey the island's geography without the immediate company of a 600-metre vertical drop.
