• •The name Greenane is derived from the Irish 'An Grianán', which translates to a 'sunny spot' or 'bower', though at nearly 800 metres, the summit is more often characterized by Atlantic winds than warmth.
• •This peak is typically bagged during a traverse of the Galty ridge, often as a stopping point between the main summit of Greenane and the ascent toward O'Loughnan's Castle and Galtymore.
• •Looking east from the top, you get an excellent view of the deep glacial basin holding Lough Muskry, one of the most picturesque of the range's four mountain lakes.
• •Despite its height, the summit is relatively featureless; on a misty day, you may find yourself checking your GPS every ten yards just to prove you are actually standing on the highest point of the plateau.
