About this Route
This GPX makes the short walk from Holdstone Down car park to the summit high point and returns the same way. It is 1.1 km long with about 46 m of ascent, so most people will need 30 to 60 minutes. The walking is easy, but the open coastal hill is exposed to wind and can feel very different from the sheltered car park.
Take the path leaving from the left side of the car park and follow it gently around the hillside. The track runs through heather, gorse and rough coastal grass before reaching the summit area. A cairn and inscribed stone mark the high ground, with views over the Bristol Channel and along the Exmoor coast in clear weather. The cliffs are not directly on the GPX, but the surrounding coast is steep and the weather can change quickly.
Return to the car park by the same path. This file does not follow the longer South West Coast Path circuit around Red Cleave. Ignore smaller animal tracks disappearing into gorse, keep dogs close around livestock and wildlife, and do not approach cliff edges in mist or strong wind. There are no facilities at the car park, with the nearest services in Combe Martin or Heddon Valley.
Take the path out of the car park to the left and follow it around to the top of the hill.

Route Waypoints
Start at the overhead-barrier car park. Check the height restriction and park without blocking the entrance.
Take the path leaving to the left as you drive in, following the official route towards the top.
Continue through heather and rough grass. Ignore narrow animal tracks entering dense gorse.
Views open across the Bristol Channel. Stay on the path in strong wind or low cloud.
Follow the main track as it curves towards the summit area rather than dropping towards the Coast Path.
The slope eases on open ground. Keep dogs close as ponies or livestock may be present.
Reach the cairn and inscribed stone. The summit is exposed despite the easy approach.
Retrace the same track, keeping to the main line through the gorse.
Essential Tips
The car park has an overhead barrier. Drivers of tall vehicles should confirm current clearance before travelling.
The wider coast has very steep ground. This GPX stays on the summit spur; do not wander towards unseen edges in mist.
Small paths vanish into thick gorse. Stay with the broad official track.
The summit is fully exposed to coastal wind even when the car park feels calm.
