About Liathan [Leahan]
Rising above the coastal village of Teelin in Southwest Donegal, this rugged Marilyn offers a wild, pathless ascent through classic Atlantic bog and heather. While overshadowed by the nearby cliffs of Slieve League, its summit provides a more secluded vantage point over Teelin Bay and the sprawling Bluestack Mountains to the east.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Irish 'Liathán', meaning 'greyish place', likely referring to the muted tones of the exposed rock and mountain grasses found across its upper slopes.
- •The summit offers a distinct perspective on the Slieve League peninsula, providing clear views across the water to the Benbulbin range in County Sligo on exceptionally clear days.
- •Because it lacks the fame of the neighbouring sea cliffs, the primary obstacle on Liathan is more likely to be a stubborn patch of peat hags than a crowd of fellow hikers.
