About Gainne Mor [Ganiamore]
Overlooking the seaside village of Downings, this coastal Marilyn is the high point of the Rosguill Peninsula. The climb through heather-clad slopes is brief but provides an exceptional vantage point over Sheep Haven Bay, the deep inlet of Mulroy Bay, and the distinctive flat-topped profile of Muckish to the southwest.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Irish Gáinne Mhór, with Gáinne likely referring to the sandy nature of the Rosguill peninsula, echoing the vast dunes of nearby Tramore Beach.
- •From the summit trig pillar, the view north follows the jagged coastline to Melmore Head, while the western horizon is dominated by the 'Seven Sisters' chain, most notably the white quartzite peak of Errigal.
- •Despite its modest 207-metre height, the hill qualifies as a Marilyn because it drops significantly to the narrow neck of the peninsula, giving it a disproportionately commanding presence over the Atlantic.
- •It is one of the few summits in Donegal where you can feel like a mountain explorer in the morning and be back in Downings for a mid-afternoon pint before your boots have even properly bedded in.
