About Crockmain [Cnoc Meain]

Located in the heart of Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula, this 460m Tump provides a rugged, pathless experience through deep heather and peat. Aptly named the "Middle Hill," it serves as a central stepping stone between the more prominent Slieve Snaght to the south and the lower coastal ridges overlooking Trawbreaga Bay.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Irish Gaelic Cnoc Meáin, translating simply as 'Middle Hill'. It sits centrally among the Inishowen uplands, acting as a topographical link between the higher inland mountains and the northern reaches of the peninsula.
  • The summit provides an excellent vantage point for surveying the central Inishowen interior, particularly the rugged northern slopes of Slieve Snaght and the distinctive, notched profile of the Urris Hills to the west.
  • Like much of the Donegal uplands, the terrain is largely pathless and dominated by blanket bog, making a pair of sturdy, waterproof boots more of a survival requirement than a mere recommendation.
