About Crockauns [Na Crocain]
Rising above the northern shores of Glencar Lake, this Marilyn forms part of the boggy upland plateau of the Dartry Mountains. Though often overshadowed by neighbouring Truskmore, its 463-metre summit offers a quieter vantage point overlooking the dramatic limestone escarpments of County Sligo and the distant Atlantic coastline.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Irish Na Crocáin, meaning 'the small hills' or 'hillocks', likely referring to the undulating, hummocky nature of the peat-covered plateau rather than the peak's overall height.
- •Situated at the southern edge of the Dartry range, the summit provides a clear line of sight across the deep glacial trough of Glencar to the sheer northern face of Cope’s Mountain and the sprawling waters of Sligo Bay.
- •Most walkers reach the top via the service road for the Truskmore telecommunications mast, turning south across the rough moorland to claim this peak as a logical detour from the Sligo County Top.
- •In a range famous for the iconic, vertical cliffs of Benbulbin, Crockauns opts for a more understated aesthetic, consisting primarily of deep peat hags that test your patience and the waterproof lining of your boots in equal measure.
