About Cro na mBruach
Sitting within the wild, peaty heart of County Donegal's Bluestack Mountains, this sub-600m peak offers a rugged sense of isolation. The terrain is typical of the range: a mix of boggy hags and rocky outcrops. From the summit, you gain clear sightlines across to the massive bulk of neighbouring Lavagh More.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Irish 'Cruach na mBruach', meaning 'the stack of the banks' or 'edges', a reference to the steep, stepped slopes that drop away from the upland plateau.
- •It forms part of the central spine of the Bluestacks (Na Cruacha Gorma), a range of ancient granite hills known for their lack of waymarked paths and challenging, trackless terrain.
- •The summit provides an excellent vantage point for viewing the sprawling waters of Lough Eske to the south and the sharp, rocky profile of Binmore to the west.
- •Like much of the central Bluestacks, the ascent is less of a walk and more of a strategic negotiation with deep peat hags that would happily swallow a misplaced walking pole.
