About Binbane NE Top
Tucked away in the rugged Donegal uplands, this subsidiary summit offers a wilder, less-trodden perspective of the Bluestack Mountains. At just under 440 metres, its peat-covered slopes require careful navigation, but reward walkers with expansive views across to the main Binbane peak and the distant Atlantic coastline.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Irish Binn Bhán, meaning 'white peak', likely referring to the pale appearance of the quartzite rock or light-coloured grasses found in this part of the Donegal highlands.
- •This summit serves as a quieter satellite to the main Binbane peak, which sits roughly one kilometre to the southwest across a broad, boggy plateau.
- •From the summit, the view to the east overlooks the deep basin of Lough Eske, with the higher, craggier summits of the central Bluestack Mountains rising sharply beyond the water.
- •While the main peak is the draw for many, this northeast top provides the better angle for spotting the Atlantic surf breaking along the coastline near Donegal Town.
- •The terrain here is a classic Donegal mix of deep heather and hidden hags, meaning the shortest route on a map rarely equates to the fastest time on the ground.
