Tom na Gabhar

Rising to 507 metres in the rolling Grampian foothills northeast of the Cairngorms, this Dodd occupies quiet moorland terrain typical of Aberdeenshire's lesser-known hills. The summit offers expansive views across farmland and forest towards the higher peaks to the west, rewarding those who venture beyond the popular routes.

• •The name Tom na Gabhar comes from Scottish Gaelic, translating as 'hillock of the goat' – a reference either to wild goats that once grazed these slopes or to the characteristically steep, goat-friendly terrain on its flanks.
• •As a Dodd, this hill qualifies for a classification recognising Scottish peaks between 500 and 599 metres with sufficient prominence, a list compiled by Clem Clements in 2005 as part of his wider catalogue of British hills.
