Sgurr an Eilein Ghiubhais

Rising to 522 metres on Knoydart's western fringe above Loch Nevis, this rugged Dodd overlooks the Sound of Sleat and Sandaig Bay. The ascent involves pathless terrain through typical West Highland mix of rock, heather and bog, rewarded by coastal views across to Skye and down the length of Loch Nevis.

• •The name derives from Scottish Gaelic meaning 'peak of the island of the pine', with 'sgurr' (peak), 'eilean' (island), and 'giuthas' (pine tree) – likely referring to either a now-vanished stand of Scots pine or a pine-covered islet visible from the summit.
• •Sandaig Bay below the hill was made famous as 'Camusfeàrna' in Gavin Maxwell's 1960 book 'Ring of Bright Water', though Maxwell deliberately obscured the location to protect his otters and privacy.
• •The hill stands within Knoydart, one of mainland Britain's most inaccessible regions with no road access – reached only by boat across Loch Nevis or a long walk over the hills from Kinloch Hourn.
• •Despite its modest height, the summit offers expansive views across the Sound of Sleat to the Sleat peninsula on Skye, with Rum and Eigg visible to the northwest on clear days.
