Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic, translating roughly as the 'Peak of the Corrie of the Battle of the Storm'. It is a fittingly dramatic title for a high, exposed shoulder that sits in the path of weather systems rolling in from the Atlantic.
  • Most walkers visit this summit as part of the classic Grey Corries traverse, a high-level route renowned for its 'moonscape' appearance caused by the vast quantities of shattered white quartzite covering the slopes.
  • The summit provides a superb vantage point for looking across the Lairig Leacach pass toward the twin Munros of Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin and Stob Coire Easain, which rise steeply on the opposite side of the glen.
  • Although it stands at a significant height of 1082 metres, it is classified as a Munro Top rather than a Munro due to its lack of topographic independence from the higher Stob Choire Claurigh to the northeast.
  • Given that the name translates to 'Battle of the Storm', arriving here on a calm, sunny afternoon can feel like you’ve missed the main event.
