Stob Choire Claurigh North Top

Perched on the skeletal northern arm of the Grey Corries, this high-altitude sibling of Claurigh offers some of the finest quartzite-crunching in Lochaber. It's a Munro Top that demands respect, unless you enjoy tumbling down scree slopes like a particularly uncoordinated haggis.

• •The peak is primarily composed of Cambrian quartzite, giving the entire Grey Corries range its iconic shimmering white appearance that looks like snow even in mid-summer.
• •As a Munro Top at 1121m, it is significantly higher than Scafell Pike or Snowdon, yet it barely warrants a mention in the shadow of its 1177m parent peak.
• •The ridge between this top and the main summit is a masterclass in 'arete-lite,' providing airy views without the immediate mortal peril of the Aonach Eagach.
• •Hiking here requires the balance of a mountain goat and the patience of a saint, as the loose scree often results in the 'two steps forward, one slide back' cardiovascular method.
